THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE INQUIRY LEARNING MODEL BASED ON REAL-LIFE CONTEXTS ON THE MATHEMATICAL UNDERSTANDING OF GRADE 10 STUDENTS IN TRIGONOMETRY

Abstrak

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Inquiry Learning model with a Real-Life Context approach in improving the mathematical understanding of tenth-grade students on the topic of trigonometry. This research used a quasi-experimental design involving two groups: a control group taught using conventional methods and an experimental group taught using the Inquiry Learning model with a Real-Life Context approach. The instrument used was a mathematical understanding test administered as pretest and posttest. The results showed that the experimental group achieved significantly higher posttest scores than the control group, indicating an improvement in students' mathematical understanding. These findings supported the hypothesis that connecting learning to real-life situations could enhance students’ conceptual understanding and engagement. Therefore, the Inquiry Learning model with a Real-Life Context approach was considered effective in teaching trigonometry. The study recommended that teachers apply this model and integrate real-life contexts into learning materials to support student understanding.
