THE IMPORTANCE OF MATHEMATICS LEARNING IN DEVELOPING EARLY CHILDHOOD NUMERACY SKILLS
Abstract
This study describes the importance of mathematics learning in developing early childhood numeracy skills. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, with the subject being a 3-year-old child. Data collection was done through direct observation and interviews. The results show that children have difficulty understanding the concept of numbers. Still, using appropriate methods such as counting games with candy, number recognition through pictures, and using clay to form numbers can improve children's counting skills. Effective and fun maths learning can provide a strong foundation for children's future thinking and problem-solving skills. Therefore, educators and parents must provide exciting and effective arithmetic education to build a strong foundation for children's cognitive abilities.
